Justification of significant contribution to the development of the relevant field of knowledge: I.A. Shcherbuk conducted fundamental studies on the scientific evidence and implementation into clinical practice of minimally invasive neuroendoscopic technologies, scientifically justified principles on the use of diagnostic and operative video endoscopy for tumors, abscesses, arterial aneurysms of the brain, stenosing and occlusive lesions of the carotid arteries, spinal cord tumors, and spinal compression injuries; described clinical and tomographic syndromes in traumatic intracranial hematomas and justified the differentiated treatment of victims with the use of video endoscopic techniques; proposed the classification of intraoperative endoscopic video monitoring in neurosurgery; studied in detail the endoscopic anatomy of the sphenoid sinus, chiasmosellar area, ventricles of the brain, cerebellopontine angle, cerebral arterial circle, spinal endoscopic anatomy. I.A. Shcherbuk scientifically substantiated and developed the experimental model of the formation of intracranial hematomas, studied size, volume and ways of distribution of intracranial hematomas in their different localization within the calvarium and anterior cranial fossa; on the basis of determination of intracranial directing guidelines developed the angles and the axis of operative activity when performing endoscopic interventions in the anterior cranial; determined the optimal endocranioscopic approaches for the removal of intracranial hematomas and developed the algorithm of their execution; developed and implemented into clinical practice recommendations on minimally invasive surgical tactics of the treatment of victims with intracranial hematomas improving its outcomes. I.A. Shcherbuk scientifically substantiated and conducted the complex study of the main clinical and tomographic syndromes in victims with isolated traumatic damage of the frontal lobes of the brain, explained the optimal tactics of treatment of victims; proposed the quantitative criteria for assessing the volume of contusional hemorrhagic foci of the brain in dynamics; defined and described the codirectional transformation of unilateral closely located contusional hemorrhagic foci of the frontal lobes; developed and implemented into practice the scale of differentiated treatment of victims with isolated traumatic injuries of the frontal lobes, scientifically substantiated the indications and optimal terms of delayed surgical interventions. I.A. Shcherbuk scientifically substantiated and optimized the care system in severe combined craniofacial injury, which hastened medical and social rehabilitation of victims in the metropolis on the example of Saint Petersburg; developed multidisciplinary approach, rational diagnostic algorithm and standard of surgical treatment of victims; substantiated the advantages of early reconstructive treatment in the acute period of severe combined craniofacial injury reducing the risk of its complications. For the first time in Russia and CIS countries, I.A., Shcherbuk implemented into clinical practice the intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging, which improved the results of surgical treatment of patients with brain tumors; actively uses intraoperative photon therapy for metastatic brain tumors that improves treatment outcomes. For the first time in Russia and CIS countries, I.A., Shcherbuk implemented into clinical practice, in patients with tumors of functionally important brain areas, the innovative methods of preoperative planning based on motor cortex mapping by navigational transcranial magnetic stimulation and magnetic resonance tractography, which increased the radicality of surgical interventions and improved their outcomes. For the first time in Russia on the metropolis-wide basis (on the example of Saint Petersburg), I.A., Shcherbuk carried out the population epidemiological study of the structure of morbidity and survivability of neuro-oncology patients; developed and implemented into practice the medical and economic standards for their surgical and rehabilitation treatment, and created the system of the staged standardized neurorehabilitation that improved outcomes. For the first time in Russia, I.A., Shcherbuk carried out the large-scale scientific multicenter epidemiological study of otogenic and rhinosinusogenic intracranial pyoinflammatory complications in 32 subjects of the Russian Federation for 2009-2014 and developed the modern system of their diagnosis and treatment that improved disease outcomes in high antibiotic resistance. For the first time in Russia, I.A., Shcherbuk developed and practically used the algorithm of examination and detection of neurological disorders in children with acute perinatal HIV infection, proved HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) and objectified its progression according to the data of the virology study of CSF.
